Neopagan

A follower of any of the various Neopagan religions, including Wicca, Druidism, Ásatrú/Odinism, Discordianism, Hellenism, and reconstructed Egyptian religions. Neopagans also refer to themselves by the simple shorthand “Pagan”, and may well prefer to identify as a member of their particular religion (e.g., “I’m an Odinist”) rather than as a member of the broader Neopagan movement.

Neopagans are generally seen within the magickal/occult community as being somewhat flaky, prone to avoid or ignore scholarship, and occasionally somewhat hysterical or in-your-face. These are many of the same stereotypes that apply to Wiccans, and this is doubtless because Wicca is still the largest sub-section of Paganism. (Of course, since Neopaganism includes such diverse groups, any stereotype of Neopagans is bound to be even more inaccurate than stereotypes normally are. But the foregoing does seem to be the general view of Pagans by others.)

As an emblem of their faith, Neopagans may wear any of a wide variety of symbols. Pentacles are perennially popular, with or without other symbology added to them. Odinists usually wear Thor’s Hammers. Others may wear anything from ankhs to Celtic knotwork to nearly any other type of spiritual or magickal symbol.
